It's Time for a Technology Reset
We’re a group of Bloomington parents working toward a more thoughtful approach to technology in Bloomington Public Schools.
We believe it’s time for a technology reset: less screen time overall, clearer standards for when and how devices are used, and a renewed focus on the ways children learn best.
Technology has a place in education, but more technology doesn't automatically mean better learning. We want to make sure classroom technology serves a clear instructional purpose rather than becoming the default.
School districts across the Twin Cities, including Minnetonka, Wayzata, and St Paul, are rethinking the role of screens in their schools and have already made significant changes to their technology strategies. We want Bloomington Public Schools to join this movement and adopt clearer, more intentional standards for student technology use.
We are advocating for four changes:
No 1:1 devices in grades K-2. Prioritize hands-on learning, direct instruction, discussion, and collaborative activities.
Only use individual devices in grades 3-12 when they objectively enhance a learning opportunity—not simply because they're available.
Eliminate routine take-home devices for elementary students (grades K-5), except where there's a specific instructional need.
Remove YouTube access on school-issued devices for grades K-8. Use more intentional, teacher-selected resources.

Sign our petition to show your support, stay informed, and help bring parent voices into Bloomington Public Schools' technology conversations. The more families who participate, the stronger our collective voice.
2. Attend the School Board Listening Session in February
Join us at the School Board Listening Session on February 8, 2027 at 6:00PM at the Educational Services Center (1350 W 106th St). We want to demonstrate broad parent support and make sure the school board hears directly from families who want a more thoughtful approach to classroom technology. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more details as the Listening Session approaches.
Our children's learning deserves more than a default setting. It's time for a reset.
